- 10 Dec: Feature Article on Green Computing in IEEE Computer
Feng et al. land the "Cover Feature" article for the December 2007
issue of IEEE Computer with an article entitled The Green500 List: Encouraging
Sustainable Supercomputing.
- 15 Nov:
The article entitled "The Green500 List: Encouraging Sustainable Supercomputing" will appear in the December 2007 issue of IEEE Computer next month. The authors of the paper are Wu Feng and Kirk Cameron. A flyer for the article is available here.
- 15 Nov:
The Synergy Lab at VT, in collaboration with Argonne National Lab (ANL), landed the SC|07 Storage Challenge Award at SC|07 in Reno, NV for their entry entitled ParaMEDIC: Parallel Metadata Environment for Distributed I/O and Computing. The team included Pavan Balaji (ANL), Wu Feng and Jeremy Archuleta (VT), and Heshan Lin (NCSU). The official press release for the awardees can be found here.
- 15 Nov:
The first installment of the Green500 List was announced at the VT booth at SC|07 in Reno, NV. The Green500 List ranks the most energy-efficient supercomputers in the world and serves as a complement to the Top500 List.

- 30 Oct:
Official Launch of Green500 List Announced. The Green500 List will officially debut at SC|07 in November. Its purpose will be to provide a ranking of the most energy-efficient supercomputers in the world, and hopefully, shift the focus of supercomputer design to adopt a more energy-efficient and power- efficient approach. The Green500 List is intended to serve as a complement to the TOP500 List. For more information, see the following news story.
- 29 Aug:
Archuleta and Feng will be one of the four finalists in the SC|07 Storage Challenge. The entry, in collaboration with Pavan Balaji (Argonne National Lab), is entitled : "ParaMEDIC: Parallel Meta-data Environment for Distributed I/O and Computing".
- 28 Aug:
Feng awarded with a prestigious IBM Faculty Award. As noted by IBM, these awards are internationally competitive, and candidates are required to have an outstanding reputation for contributions in their field. For additional information, see the following VT News Story.
- 22 Aug:
Narayanaswamy and Feng have a paper co-authored with Pavan Balaji (Argonne National Lab) titled "An Analysis of 10-Gigabit Ethernet Protocol Stacks in Multicore Environments" at HotI 2007 (IEEE Hot Interconnects) in Palo Alto, CA.
- 15 Aug:
Archuleta awarded an interdisciplinary fellowship from the Institute for
Critical Technology and Applied Science to pursue his PhD studies
at Virginia Tech.
- 02 Jun:
Archuleta, Feng and Tilevich have a paper titled A Pluggable Framework for Parallel Pairwise Sequence Search describing the new computational framework for mpiBLAST at the International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC 2007) and will be presented in Lyon, France in August.

Archuleta, Tlievich and Feng have a paper titled A Maintainable Software Architecture for Fast and Modular Bioinformatics Sequence Search describing the new software architecture for mpiBLAST-2.0 at the 23rd IEEE International Conference for Software Maintenance (ICSM 2007) and will be presented at the conference in Paris, France in October.
